I simply wanted my AM/FM antenna to match the VHF antenna on the other side of the boat. The new AM/FM antenna replaced an old 3' whip antenna that had broken. I was pleasantly surprised with the improved FM reception that the tall antenna gives all over our lake. All of the dead spots have disappeared, so that's a turned out to be a nice side benefit.
